The fresh evidence

Oklahoma State’s October 22 comparison listed the Cowboys at 517.7 total yards per game entering Saturday’s homecoming game with Colorado. It also listed 11 Oklahoma State turnovers lost, while Colorado had lost 13 and forced seven.

The official preview also noted five consecutive 30-point games for Oklahoma State, its longest such run since the 2021-22 seasons. That scoring pace explains the offense’s range, but it does not guarantee control when one possession disappears on a giveaway.

What it changes

This matchup should be treated as an efficiency test rather than a race to a prettier total. Colorado’s defense can concede movement and still win a sequence if Oklahoma State gives away a short field or turns a scoring drive into an empty return.

The Cowboys should make their explosive passes earn the next snap: protect the ball at the end of the catch, avoid late throws across the field and use the reliable field-goal unit when fourth down becomes a low-percentage gamble. Patience is an attacking choice here.

For Oklahoma State, that distinction turns a reported development into a football decision. The Cowboys have the yardage to pressure Colorado, but the turnover column can shrink that advantage in a hurry. The coaching value comes from deciding where the new leverage belongs: which player can simplify his assignment, which defender must now receive help and which down can be called more aggressively. A sound plan does not merely celebrate the strength described above. It uses that strength to make the next assignment clearer for the other ten players, then preserves an answer when the opponent adjusts.

The Saturday test

Homecoming energy can tempt an offense to hunt a knockout before the defense has revealed its answer. A hurried deep shot after a successful run would help Colorado more than a modest gain that keeps the playbook open.

Watch the first two Oklahoma State drives for one simple measure: whether the Cowboys finish with a kick. Touchdown, field goal or punt is acceptable if the possession changes on their terms. That discipline would let the larger offensive numbers matter.
