Boston College stopped Pitt’s touchdowns before it stopped the game

The Eagles’ opening went badly. Keeping the next scoring chances to field goals made their 27–21 recovery possible.

The first touchdown did not become a pattern

Pittsburgh opened with a 75-yard touchdown, then added a safety and a field goal to lead Boston College 12–0 on October 17. The Eagles won 27–21 because the defense made sure the first touchdown was also Pitt’s last.

The Panthers finished with four field goals. Those kicks still represented points Boston College had to answer, but they kept the deficit and later margins within reach of a working offense. A defense recovering from a bad start does not always need to become impenetrable immediately. Sometimes it needs the next possession to end with less damage.

The takeaway changed the comeback’s starting point

KP Price’s interception gave the Eagles the ball at their own 46, and the resulting drive ended with Javarius Green’s first career touchdown to put Boston College ahead 14–12. Price finished with ten tackles and his third interception of the season. Carter Davis led the group with eleven tackles.

The offense supplied its own large gains. Mason McKenzie passed for a career-high 295 yards and two touchdowns; Landon Wright’s two catches produced 122 yards, including a 69-yard touchdown. The defense did not score those points. It helped preserve enough room for the offensive answers to change the game rather than merely narrow an expanding deficit.

The ending still required a separate stop

Charlie Comella intercepted with 1:34 remaining to secure the result, his second pick of the season. Marcelous Townsend also recovered the first fumble of his career. Boston College improved to 3–3 overall and 1–2 in the ACC.

Georgia Tech is next on October 24. The useful continuation is a defense able to reset its expectations after a damaging play without chasing an immediate spectacular correction. Pitt’s first touchdown counted exactly as much after the Eagles recovered as it had before. Boston College won by controlling what came afterward—limiting the later scoring returns, creating better starting points, and finally taking the ball when the opponent needed one more answer.
