The next rotation is no longer a temporary bridge
Florida State announced October 18 that Ousmane Kromah would miss the rest of the 2026 season after surgery following the Miami game. Independent reporting corroborated the announcement. The Seminoles’ bye therefore begins with a permanent backfield absence for this season, not a question of managing one week until an expected return.
The 43–35 double-overtime loss to Miami left Florida State 3–4 overall and 1–3 in the ACC. Its next game is against Clemson on October 31. That interval provides preparation time, but time itself does not decide how the missing work will be divided.
Wisner has already supplied a usable example
Quintrevion Wisner rushed nine times for a season-high 63 yards against Miami and caught four passes for 56 yards and a touchdown. His 28-yard touchdown reception gave Florida State a third-quarter lead. The contribution shows an existing option capable of helping in both phases of the offense. He also lost a fourth-quarter fumble, a reminder that additional opportunity still requires secure possession.
It does not establish that Wisner has been named the sole replacement or that the coaching staff has fixed the coming rotation. A backfield assignment includes carrying, receiving and responding correctly when the ball goes elsewhere. Replacing the visible rushing total alone would leave part of the work unaccounted for.
Keep the quarterback’s choices connected
Ashton Daniels passed for 298 yards and four touchdowns against Miami, adding 31 rushing yards and a score. Duce Robinson caught five passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns. Florida State still possesses passing threats that can make a defense allocate help away from the backfield.
The useful bye-week task is connecting the available runners to those threats without treating every snap as an attempt to recreate Kromah’s individual style. A different player may reach the same offensive purpose through a different strength. Wisner’s receiving work supplied one concrete example. The Seminoles need a complete, coordinated distribution of responsibilities around that evidence, not a depth-chart label mistaken for a solution.
