Texas A&M’s next standard is a functioning touchdown drive

The Missouri loss left the Aggies with two field goals and too little offensive movement. The Citadel game needs more than a reassuring score.

Texas A&M lost 27–6 at Missouri on October 10, falling to 3–3 overall and 1–3 in the SEC. The Aggies gained 216 total yards. Marcel Reed completed 19 of 39 passes for 187 yards, and David Olano supplied all six points with field goals from 53 and 27 yards.

Daymion Sanford intercepted a pass on Missouri’s opening drive, and Brandon Davis-Swain blocked a field-goal attempt before halftime. Those plays helped keep the deficit at 10–3 at the break. A&M next hosts The Citadel on October 17. No offensive touchdown arrived to turn that early defensive resistance into a stronger position.

A lower-pressure opponent does not change the assignment

A&M should use the next game to demonstrate offensive relationships that remain useful beyond that particular matchup. A large final margin can reassure fans without explaining whether protection, route timing and the run game have become more dependable. The more revealing evidence is a series that functions deliberately while the opponent still has a chance to defend it normally.

Reed needs an answer on downs when the initial target is unavailable. The backs and line need to create enough usable progress that a passing situation is not obvious before the snap. None of those tasks requires the offense to abandon its ability to attack. They make aggression more informed by giving the quarterback alternatives instead of asking him to recover every possession with a difficult throw.

Convert the help the rest of the team supplies

The interception and blocked kick at Missouri show that A&M received meaningful contributions outside the offense. Those contributions do not automatically become points. The next offensive series has to use the improved circumstance, whether through a touchdown, a sustained change of field or a scoring opportunity that does not demand a very long kick.

Against The Citadel, the best sign would be several drives in which the offense stays coherent after a stopped run or an incomplete pass. That would provide a more useful foundation than a few isolated plays against an overmatched look. The Aggies’ season has reached a point where the scoreboard and the process both deserve scrutiny. Saturday offers an opportunity to build a clearer sequence of decisions around Reed. The meaningful recovery is not merely scoring more than six points; it is showing how A&M intends to earn those points when the game again becomes difficult.
